BENEFITING: AFFORDABLE HOUSING CORPORATION OF MARION INDIANA
AHC has been awarded Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) donor state income tax credits. Other local nonprofits are also selling credits; however Indiana has awarded 60% of total tax credits to nonprofits implementing Housing Activities, which means we have a larger share of donor credits for sale.
In June 2009, AHC began weatherizing Grant County homes in order to reduce utility bills and improve quality of life. The weatherization process is guided by a professional energy audit that provides measurable goals and results for home energy conservation. AHC contracts with certified auditors and local contractors to perform the work such as improving insulation, furnaces, water heaters, and duct work.
Because a home must be in good structural condition to qualify for weatherization work, AHC will use NAP donations to make necessary repairs for the health and safety of over 60 households. NAP donations will pay for contract labor and materials.
When you or your business make a donation, 50% of the amount donated is deducted from your Indiana tax liability up to a maximum of $25,000 per tax year. This is in addition to the tax deduction given for charitable contributions at the federal level. Below is a summary of how a donation works:
$1,000 donation to AHC for home repairs
$250 federal tax benefit at 25% tax bracket
$500 state tax benefit
$250 donor’s “net contribution”
Therefore, $250 is the “cost” to the donor of a $1,000 donation!
Please consider donating generously. We will promptly provide the necessary forms and acknowledgements for you to obtain your tax credits and federal tax deduction.
