Every year approximately 38,000 Americans commit suicide. Worldwide, that number climbs to 800,000. In the past year high profile celebrities Robin Williams and Ronda Rousey have both dealt with the thoughts and actions of suicide. Their stories affected millions and have highlighted the severity and seriousness of this disease. But, what we tend to forget are the deaths that aren't in the media and the many families that deal with this every day.
On Saturday, February 20th, 2016 my younger sister, Arlevia Antoinette Livingston, passed and became one of thousands that will take their life this year. She was only 17 years old.
This unexpected tragedy has put a burden on the hearts and minds of all those who loved her. In her honor I have created this fundraiser, A Hope For Change, to tackle the issues of bullying, depression, and stress she faced prior to her untimely passing. A donation to A Hope For Change is a personal commitment towards bettering yourself by changing the way you interact with others on a daily basis. It may not be obvious, but every thought, every word, and every action has an effect on those around you, either positively or negatively. One smile, one hello, one extended hand of friendship can be all it takes to effect change in someone's life. It may be too late to save my sister, but it's not too late to save another.
A portion of the proceeds to A Hope For Change will go towards funding the abrupt cost of a funeral service for Arlevia. All other proceeds will be donated to SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) and The Trevor Project to fund research into mental health issues and support for those who are most in need. All donations are greatly appreciated and will be put to great use. If you are not able to donate, it is OK! All we ask is that you keep my sister and all those who have lost their life in your prayers, and pledge to yourself to make someone's day brighter while you can.
Thank you and God bless! -The Livingston Family
