BENEFITING: American Heart Association
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
I used to run all the time, then life got in the way. So three years and 65lbs later I decided to pick up running again and begin training for the Pittsburgh Half Marathon as a way to drop some of the excess weight. Then exactly two weeks before registration began My uncle Jr. had a heart attack and passed away; and my mom got a small blood clot and had a mini stroke less than 24 hours after that. My family has a history of high blood pressure and Heart related illnesses so these incidents made me want to train harder for the half marathon and get healthier so that I can end the cycle of preventable heart related Illnesses in my family. Those events two weeks ago also cemented my decision to run to raise money for the American Heart Association. Thanks a lot for your help.

Currently, heart disesases are the #1 killer of Americans and stroke doesn't fall far behind at #5. 1 in 3 women will die of heart disease. Stroke is the leading cause of disability in the United States. What people don't know, is that heart disease is 80% preventable. Physical activity and a healthy diet can help prevent you or your loved ones from suffering from either of these terrible diseases. Join the AHA/ASA marathon team and help us create a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. For every $1 that is raised in the Greater Pittsburgh Region, $3 is allocated back to research and advocacy right here in Southwestern Pennsylvania. There is currently over $13 million invested in research in Pittsburgh - help us get one step closer to ending heart disease and stroke. You can make a difference!
