BENEFITING: American Heart Association
EVENT: 2018 Pittsburgh Marathon
EVENT DATE: May 06, 2018
Everyone has a story.
Ignoring elementary teachings of stranger danger, I have always been one to strike up conversation with those at bus stops and in grocery store lines, befriending mailmen and roofers from two neighborhoods away, and finding out when the next community run is… in a city I’ve probably never been to. What I love so much about doing this is that people are so open, and usually about surprising things. Many stories I have heard are of hope, heroism, strength, and perseverance. Some stories are humbling, reflective, and tear-inducing. There are the modest stories and the oversharing stories (pshht, I’m in nursing, there is no such thing as oversharing) and there are stories from past lives and still present ones. What has had such an impact on my life is the strength of the “heart”. I’m well aware that the American Heart Association’s funding does not go to the emotional strength of the heart. However, I am fortunate enough to have a heart that is healthy enough to run, and I intend to run the Pittsburgh Marathon for those who wish they could but can’t.
Please, join me in raising money for the American Heart Association and let us, together, support those who are affected now and prevent those in the future from developing heart issues.
