BENEFITING: American Institute for Cancer Research
ORGANIZER: American Institute for Cancer Research
I always consider it a great gift and blessing to be able to run a marathon and this year is an extra special marathon for me because I am running as part of the AICR Team (The American Institute for Cancer Research) -- and donations that are raised to support my effort will go to fund cancer research. Please support this wonderful cause...at any level that you can. The NY Marathon is an event that has such a wonderful spirit of community where everyone is pulling for each other. I ran NY in 2011 with my daughter Jackie and it was an amazing experience, My wife Carol also completed the 26.2 mi NY Marathon (in 2014) and received the very last medal of more than 50,000 awarded! "It's not about compete, it's about complete" is what NYers were yelling to help her get across the finish line. Runners from all walks of life are out there, representing all nationalities, creeds, and colors. It is a celebration of life and love and community -- all rolled into one. The streets of NY for this year's NY Marathon will be filled with 50,000+ plus runners and more than 5,000,000 men, women, and children as we run from Staten Island, through Brooklyn and Queens, over the 59th Street bridge into Manhattan, then up to the Bronx -- and, finally, the return to Manhattan for the finish in Central Park. No matter whether the gift is large or small , it will be greatly appreciated in support of Team AICR. Tip: If you follow the race on ESPN, keep an eye out for Shalene Flanagan and Meb Keflezighi -- two former US Olympians. For Meb, it will be his final NY Marathon I believe and there is not a finer humanitarian and world ambassador for goodwill on this planet. His story is incredibly inspirational... http://immigrationimpact.com/2014/04/22/american-boston-marathon-winner-came-to-u-s-as-refugee/ --- If you follow the leaders out there, regrettably you won't find me, because I am still about 20 min short of qualifying for Boston, but as a confirmed "Clydesdale" runner, I'm just happy to be in the company of so many great folks from all across the world sharing in an unforgettable experience.
