Jodie Fletcher's Fundraiser:

Aiden's Achilles Heel

Jodie Fletcher

Hello, my name is Aiden and I am 11 years old. I was born with a disability called Talipes that affected the shape of my foot and the rate it grows. When I was only eight months old I had my first operation. My Achilles tendon was cut and a string was put in place to help it grow back longer and stronger. My second operation was when I was 5, they cut out the front two tendons in my foot and swapped them around. My third (and hopefully last) was when I was nine. They broke my leg bone and twisted it into the right place, then they put in some plates and pins to keep it in place. Even though I was born with a rather bad case (most people get better with simple casts and braces) because I live in Britain I didn't have to pay a single penny due to our lovely NHS. I know that people living in developing countries don't have these kinds of luxuries and I really love that Miraclefeet are trying to support these people. This year I passed my 11+ and so I am going to a grammar school (King Eds) and have to do 5 challenges. One of these challenges is to do a physical challenge and another is to donate money to a charity and so I started making plans to climb Mount Snowdon for Miracle Feet. We set up a Facebook page and started posting things about food/clothes to wear. Many other people had said they were going to join in but then two weeks before the planned departure my dad got into a bad accident and can still not walk for more than 5 minutes, even with his crutches. As I have not had time to prepare anything else I am going to do a three mile walk; when I was born my parents were told I might never walk properly so this seems fitting. I really hope you will sponsor me to do this. Yours sincerely, Aiden Cook
