BENEFITING: US Association for UNHCR

Syria has been engaged in a deadly civil war since 2011, although the roots of the war date back to the 1920's and, arguably, the first "wave" of the civil war began in 1982. Since 2011, about 250,000 Syrian's have been killed, and roughly 11.6 million have been displaced from their homes — about half of Syria's prewar population. Of those, 4 million have been forced out of the country entirely. The war now involves many factions of rebels and the Syrian government (Assad regime). Nations that have taken in refugees are finding their resources and infrastructure is becoming overwhelmed - in part because the burden for taking in refugees has fallen on a very small number of countries, with others unwilling to share in the burden (http://www.vox.com/2015/9/15/9331371/syrian-refugees-europe-chart). The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), also known as the UN Refugee Agency, is the world’s leading organization aiding and protecting people forced to flee their homes due to violence, conflict and persecution. UNHCR provides shelter, food, water, medical care, and other life-saving assistance to refugees around the world. The UNHCR is about $3 billion short on their funding requirements to aid Syrian refugees around the world. Your generous donation will help make a difference for at least some of the refugees forced to flee their home and seek shelter in foreign countries.
