BENEFITING: GAY MEN'S HEALTH CRISIS INC
EVENT DATE: May 15, 2011
My uncle had AIDS and died. And noone knew he had AIDS till he died. Noone should have to go through this fight alone. This happened about 15 years ago when there was not as much knowledge or support for this horrible disease. I wish my uncle had had the support of organizations like GMHC....maybe he could have lived a longer, more fulfilling life.
But even still today, it's an ongoing battle. Although new drug treatments have been able to extend the life of AIDS victims, that has created new challenges of dealing with AIDS and aging. The fight is never over...and I am walking in honor of my late uncle, Larry Steinfeld. I wish he could be here to walk with me.
