SOSMentor via Crowdrise
August 03, 2012
EVENT DATE: Oct 06, 2012
Let's face it: It took Chris and me a while to find each other. At this point, we really do have many of the traditional bridal registry items. While of course, we do accept cash and/or checks, we thought we'd give you the option to support a cause we're both passionate about.
Both Chris and I love working out, and we realize how important it is for everyone, especially young people, to develop healthy nutrition and exercise habits.
As some of you may know, I had the amazing opportunity to help develop an inspiring afterschool program in 2005, during my first year of teaching high school health in South Los Angeles at Santee Education Complex.
Working with the founders of the SOSMentor nonprofit organization, Bob and Carole Donahue, we were able to start the ShapeUp program, which teaches students the importance of making healthy food choices and being physically active.
Since then, I've been very involved with SOSMentor: I've helped write curriculum, train other teachers, served as a board member, and even ran in the LA Marathon 5K with ShapeUp students.
If you feel so inclined, share in our love for heath and fitness and give a few young people the chance to develop theirs.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
