Air Ambulance for Gabrielle.
Organized by: Stella Croxon
Gabrielle has become like a daughter to me since we met in 2011. Her Mom had died when she was just 16 and my Mom had died in 2011 from ALS. We like to think that somewhere our Moms are together and brought Gabrielle to me so that I could take care of her. Sadly Gabrielle who is now 28 is gravely ill and very frail due to the debilitating effects of a rare disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Her tiny body is damaged and in so much pain. Many doctors do not have the knowledge or experience in how to treat this illness. Gabrielle has spent many days in and out of hospitals in the past few years, has had multiple surgeries and has already been hospitalized three times in October. She is now in hospital again.
Individuals with Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) have a genetic defect in their connective tissue, the tissue that provides support to many body parts such as the skin, muscles and ligaments. The fragile skin and unstable joints found in patients with EDS are the result of faulty or reduced amounts of collagen. Collagen is a protein, which acts as a "glue" in the body, adding strength and elasticity to connective tissue.
There is a hospital that specializes in her illness and is really her last hope for a chance of recovery. It is called the New Center For Ehlers-Danlos Research at Towson Hospital's Genetics Program in Baltimore. They know of Gabrielle's condition and want to help her but she is too weak to make the journey by a regular commercial airline. Sitting upright in a seat to make the more than 5 hour journey would be too much for her, and would be dangerous for her to do without trained medical supervision and care. But there is an air-ambulance service called www.angelmedflight.com that could fly her there and provide her with the medical care she needs during the flight. The cost of the flight from West Hills, California to Towson in Baltimore, Maryland is $28,500. So I'm trying to find a way to raise these funds and fly Gabrielle there. I truly believe this is her last chance for help.
Gabrielle is the sweetest, kindest person you could ever meet and fate has handed her a terrible life. If losing her Mom at the age of 16 isn’t enough, she has since endured so much suffering and sadness in her young life and she deserves a chance for help.
Thank you for reading this and for your kindness.
