The Fund for the City of New York is the fiscal sponsor for A.I.R. Harlem and A.I.R. Bronx.
Asthma is the number one reason children are absent from school and hospitalized in Harlem and the South Bronx.
A.I.R., which stands for Asthma Intervention and Relief, is a home-visiting program created In 2001 to help asthmatic children stay healthy, in school, and out of the hospital. Our staff provide intensive asthma-control education in English, Spanish, French, and Mandingo, and are trained to identify and address the behavioral, social and environmental factors that may be exacerbating asthma in children. Our work with families in their homes, strengthened by coordination with schools, other community-based organizations and medical providers, has resulted in positive health outcomes: data show an 85% decrease in hospitalizations, a 64% decrease in ER visits, and a 69% reduction in school absences among children enrolled in our services for just one year.
Thank you for supporting the mission of A.I.R. Harlem/ A.I.R. Bronx to improve the quality of life and academic achievement of asthmatic children, helping families break the revolving cycle of poverty that is worsened by chronic disease.
