BENEFITING: TOOMERS FOR TUSCALOOSA CAUSE
EVENT DATE: Feb 23, 2012
Spring 2011 was a disaster ridden season for the South. Alabama, alone, suffered devastating tornadoes, resulting in the death of 235 people. Enter in the incredible volunteer power of a network of Auburn Alumni and the sheer willpower of one woman, Holly.
Through Facebook Toomer's for T-Town was born. Their sole mission, to help those who had been stricken by the tornadoes in the South. As an Emergency Manager, I know first hand that Toomer's fills a void that government cannot fill during disaster response and recovery. As Holly told me, "First responders don't go and deliver 38DD size bras to a woman who has lost everything. We do."
Last year, I used my 30th birthday to raise $805 for ShelterBox. This year, I have chosen something a little closer to home and in honor of gaining one year of wisdom and friendships, I have also up'd the ante. $1,000 or bust for Toomer's for T-Town!
Join me in honoring ingenious volunteers during a great time of need.
