A Kidney for my Sister

My sister has been visiting a dialysis clinic for two years due to being diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. She has even done peritoneal dialysis from home but had to stop because she acquired peritonitis. She is only 28 years old and so positive and always hopeful with her condition. She has been on the waitlist for a transplant in Mississippi for a little over a year now. It hurts me to know that her life, so far, must be arranged around her dialysis schedule and that because of her illness she sometimes lack energy to do things outside her home. I only want to see my sister have a normal life without the need to dialyze three times a week to be functional. I chose to be a living donor for my sister so that she can be free of the dialysis routine and so that she can live a long, healthy, productive life doing things that she aspires to do.

During my period of recovery from the transplant surgery, I will be unable to work for six weeks, at most. I serve as a full-time LPN caring for pediatric patients requiring 24 hour nursing care from the comforts of their homes. My husband just nine months ago discovered he has end stage renal disease and is receiving dialysis maintenance. My husband and I care for our four children in our home. Taking the required time off from work will cause financial strain on my family since I am the only person in the home working. With this in mind, I chose to utilize crowdsourcing to hopefully obtain the financial help I need that will support my family through most of my recovery period.

Because I live in Mobile, AL, the amount requested will be used to cover costs for an extended stay in Jackson, MS which will allow my family and I to be near the hospital while i am recovering form my surgery. It will also be contributed to an emergency fund since he is also on dialysis from kidney failure and I depend on his support mostly to help with our four children. I would be entirely grateful for any amount that you have to give. I also have a fundraiser on the go fund me website to receive help with paying up home recurring financial responsibilities and transportation.

Thank you for taking the time to review my need and whether you help financially, provide words of encouragement, or send a simple prayer of support, I will that you are blessed abundantly for your consideration and kindness. My sister is my best friend, and I love her dearly. I am happy to donate my kidney to her.

Again, thank you.
