BENEFITING: Aktiv Against Cancer
ORGANIZER: Aktiv Against Cancer
Hey everyone! My name is Alyssa Musso. I am 28 years old and live in my home town of Pueblo, Colorado where I work as a nurse.
Let me start by saying that when it comes to running I am a "mortal" by every definition. I am certainly not an elite athlete and will never be one. In other words.....qualifying for Boston isn't ever going to be a thing lol. Running is simply something that brings joy to my life, no matter how fast or slow. This will be my first marathon and I always dreamed of, but never believed that I could do a marathon until August of 2016. I was shocked to be diagnosed with a dysgerminoma or a very rare form of ovarian cancer. I have never experienced fear to that extent. Thankfully my story has a happy ending. The tumor was removed and bisopsies showed that the cancer had not metastasized. From that moment on, I realized just how quickly life can change and that you have to chase your dreams no matter how far out of reach they may seem.
I am truly honored not only be running in the NYC Marathon, but to also be running for a cause that I support and believe in. As a nurse, I have always believed that activity is not only good for our overall physical health, but for our mental health as well. AKTIV Against Cancer supports advanced research on exercise in both the prevention and treatment of cancer. So many people in my ife have been effected by a cancer of some form. I am running this marathon, not only for myself, but for everyone who has been effected by cancer. Thank you all so much for your time and support and I am honored to be running for AKTIV Against Cancer. Any support through this journey, whether in the form of money or simply words of encouragement, is greatly appreciated.
