THE STORY:

In April 2005, the Al-Basri's* home was attacked and burnt down in Iraq. Realizing that the situation in Iraq was no longer safe for their family, the Al-Basris moved to Syria in hopes of attaining safety and eventually seeking medical attention for their youngest son who needs a heart transplant. IRAP (The Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project) has attempted to get them resettled into a safe third country, however the increasingly unstable security situation in Syria has created many roadblocks and has continued to delay the resettlement process.

This past week, their situation came to a head when the area that they live in was bombed. A substantial amount of their home has been destroyed. We need to evacuate them to Lebanon immediately because their situation is only getting worse.

The Al-Basris are a family of seven. Three of the children are blind, several of them have albinism, one has diabetes, and one requires a heart transplant. Their father, a former engineer, has diabetes and heart problems, and has not been able to work in several years. Their mother has told us that they do not have enough food and constantly fear for their safety.

After being bombed, the family's lives are immediate danger. Their only option is to move to Lebanon immediately, but they need more than $2000 a person to cross the border, and will also need financial help to start their life again in Lebanon.

Please help us evacuate this family by donating whatever you can to their cause, so that we can get them into Lebanon and into safety.
