One Ummah Foundation would like to acknowledge the generous donation of $1,000 from Dr. Edgar Reynolds. Additionally, to demonstrate our own belief and investment in this cause One Ummah Foundation has committed to donating $1,000.
Mohammad Mazahir has dedicated nearly three decades of his life to providing education for children who otherwise could not attend school due to their families’ financial difficulties. His efforts have materialized into an established academic institution that serves children living in the slums of Karachi, a densely populated city located in southern Pakistan.
The forty-two classrooms are filled with students—twenty-five hundred children are enrolled at Mazahir’s school—dedicated to earning an education and to lifting their families out of poverty. The school offers a well-balanced education with practical training programs focusing on computer skills and dressmaking. Currently all of these amazing resources are not available to the students.
Load shedding (also known as rolling black outs) are intentional electric power shut downs employed as a last-resort by utility companies in order to avoid a blackout across the entire power-grid system. Such occurrences are usually brought on by the inadequate generation of electricity or inadequate electrical infrastructure. On an average day, the school loses power for eight hours.
Without electricity not only are the computer and dressmaking programs closed, students and teachers struggle to study and teach respectively as they are without light or fans. This week’s weather forecast predicts that the daily high is 100 Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius) and the low is predicted at 73 degrees Fahrenheit (23 degrees Celsius).
There are twenty-five hundred students in forty-two classrooms. For eight hours there is no light, and there is no airflow.
Mohammad Mazahir has made a request for an electrical generator so that the school might maintain electrical power throughout the day. One Ummah Foundation is proud to help our friend raise funds to buy a 22KVA standby generator. Our goal is to raise $11, 651.48 and we need your help to meet it.
