Our Mission

Changing Lives, Building Community

Alameda Family Services is a human services organization, active in Alameda and the East Bay, whose programs improve the emotional, psychological and physical health of children, youth and families.


Who We Serve:

  • Children ages 0-5
  • Homeless, Runaway and At-Risk Youth ages 13-19
  • Individuals, Couples, Families, and Groups




  • $5 can provide a low-income child with 4 healthy and nutritional Breakfasts or 2 Lunches provided in the safe environment of a HS/EHS classroom
  • $10 can promote early literacy in children with 2 books
  • $15 can provide 3 pre-school classrooms (60 children) with toothbrushes to promote healthy gums and early oral health care
  • $20 can provide 1 counseling visit for a troubled high school teen
  • $25 can provide 1 anger management treatment session
  • $50 can provide 2 months worth of emergency medical supplies (such as band-aids, cold & hot packs) for children and youth enrolled in our programs
  • $75 can provide 2-3 hours of individual and family therapy
  • $150 can feed youth at our Homeless Youth Shelter for 1 month


Our Programs:


Head Start/Early Head Start

  • We serve low-income children ages 0-5 and their families enrolled in our Head Start/Early Head Start infant, toddler and pre-school services.  (Head Start is administered by the Administration for Children and Families, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.)


Behavioral Health Care Services

  • We provide an array of strength-based /solution-focused counseling and substance abuse intervention for:
    • Individuals, Couples, Families, and Groups (Anger Management and Domestic Violence Treatment)
    • Youth counseling held at local Alameda high schools and elementary school
    • Alameda Point Collaborative Community


School-Linked Services

  • We promote the health and well-being of youth in Alameda high schools by utilizing a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare and offering free and confidential medical, mental health, health education and youth development directly to youth on school grounds.


DreamCatcher—Homeless Youth Services

  • We provide shelter and support for homeless, runaway youth and at-risk youth, ages 13-19.  We provide:
    • Lunch & Supper
    • Laundry
    • Case Management/Crisis Counseling
    • Health Clinic and Health Education Workshops
    • HIV/STD Testing & Counseling
    • Contraceptives
    • Academic Tutoring
    • Computer Training
    • Job Skills Training
    • Art & Recreation Activities
    • Peer Support
    • Hygiene Supplies
    • Family Medication
    • Outreach
    • Transportation/Bus Passes
    • A Safe Place for Youth to Learn, Relax, Create & Make Connections
