THE STORY:

ATBF has assisted a wide range of people who reside in the Tri-State area and across the nation. Our grassroots referral network focuses solely on an individual’s current needs. After many years, our efforts in funding research for a cure transformed into helping people “in the now”. ATBF helps people restructure their lives by providing information. We help answer questions during three main stages; after an injury during one’s hospital stay, once you are settled in your home, and the on-going support we provide so that you may continue to reach goals in a different way. We are confident that the results will lead to a better quality of life. ATBF has extensive connections to medical specialists who treat people living with paralysis. We arrange consultations, hospital transfer requests and schedules appointments. Our Medical Advisory Board represents many prominent physicians in various fields who will speak to people with new injuries and help them any possible, addressing crucial concerns with knowledge, experience and compassion. The main specialists we work with are in the areas of spine surgery and rehabilitation. We also frequently put people in touch with physicians who assist with secondary concerns of paralysis such as wound care, urology, gastroenterology, physical and occupational therapy, nutrition and fertility. ATBF pairs people with spinal cord injury by similar traits. Our Peer Mentoring Program has helped people thrive in life. The personal relationships established from the pairings between a person with a new injury and someone who has already “been there” has been effective in maintaining a new take on life after an injury. ATBF embraces family and friends who surround an individual with paralysis. Our concerns for everyone’s stability, well-being and confidence in coping with the trauma of paralysis are primary to us. The family and friends who surround an individual with paralysis are reached out to with understanding. These concerns are addressed and continued over days and years and the ties are bound and strengthened over time. The availability to always contact the Foundation days and years after any injury and to receive an answer to any question happens a lot and we are glad to always help!!! Why we need your support… The quality of life programs funded by ATBF are crucial to a better quality of life for the many individuals with paralysis who contact us. Attendance at these programs where one can exercise, network, change surroundings and socialize enables one to overcome barriers, and become stronger emotionally and physically.
