BENEFITING: ATLANTA - LATIN AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2015
THE STORY:
The Atlanta-Latin America Scholarship (ALAS) was established in 2009 with a goal of giving young Americans more opportunities to experience foreign cultures and improve their professional skills.
But while sponsoring multiple students the past few years to study abroad in Mexico, we've realized something incredible. When you empower aspiring young people to chase their ambitions, there is no limit to the great things they can do.
Our scholarship recipients have volunteered at hospitals, worked for a program supporting victims of domestic abuse, and even started a charity drive to donate supplies to a school for blind children.
We consider this a 2 for 1. Not only are we helping inspire future leaders, but we're also working towards creating a deeper understanding and better relations between the people of two closely-intertwined countries.
In 2014, ALAS sponsored 14 students from Clayton State University and Emory University to travel to Guadalajara. In 2015, we want to make it even bigger.
But we need your help. Tweet about us, share this fundraiser on social media, or just donate some spare change. Anything helps...and we'll give you props on our website in return. If you donate more than $50, we will send you a free t-shirt (pics below).
Help us make a difference. Be a part of ALAS.
