Alaska Children's Trust wrote -Alaska Children's Trust (ACT) is looking for your support to help fight against child abuse and neglect in Alaska. Alaska has consistently had one of the highest per capita rates of child abuse and neglect in the country. Research shows that the societal impacts of child abuse and neglect are major and lifelong. It impairs a child’s physical, social and intellectual development which in turn, increases the risk of poor performance in school, mental health problems, substance abuse, and problems with the law. Childhood trauma contributes to serious long-term health problems. Adults who experienced trauma as children have much higher rates of chronic disease, disability and premature death. Dealing with the immediate and long-term consequences of child abuse and neglect is estimated at $80 billion per year in the United States. For Giving Tuesday, donate to ACT so we can prevent trauma and promote resilience in our children. By investing in our children, we will be investing in the long term future of our state.
