An urban church with a village heart, at Alaska Native Lutheran Church we pride ourselves on keeping the Native traditions of the village alive such as the arts, sewing, dancing, singing, Native foods & subsistance practices of food gathering (fishing, hunting & berry gathering).

Alaska Native Lutheran Church (ANLC) began as Native Outreach, under the leadership of Pr. John Maakestad & his wife Louise. Native Outreach was a ministry to displaced villagers in Anchorage but evolved into a congregation of its own with Prs. Karen & George Sonray to better serve Alaska Natives in Anchorage. As a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Alaska Native Lutheran Church is a member of a cluster of other Alaska Native ELCA congregations. These congregations are from: Shishmaref, Teller, Brevig Mission, Wales, Nome, and Anchorage, AK. ANLC is unique among the cluster churches for having members that represent all of these villages, as well as different areas of Alaska as well. ANLC is currently served by Pr. Sara Quigley Brown.
