Hello- We wanted to provide…

We wanted to provide an update on a handful of items as we approach 90% of our fundraising goal ($40,000).

First, thank you for your amazing generosity. It’s hard to believe we have raised so much money in such a short period of time.

Second, we began researching the right fit with a potential Sponsorship Agreement Holder ~6 weeks ago as we neared (and since passed) the minimum threshold established by Citizenship & Immigration Canada to pursue a private sponsorship for a family of 4 from Syria. The Armenian Family Support Services organizations seems like a terrific fit from the perspective of both parties. I am trying to arrange a face-to-face meeting with the Chair of the Board after numerous phone and email exchanges. Stay tuned for more details.

Third, as mentioned, tax receipts may potentially issue for individual Canadian donors for the 2016 tax year (the taxes you will file next year). I would peg this now at a 50/50 prospect up from negligible when we started. Tax receipts would be pro-rated net off expenses pending approval by their board. NO ACTION IS REQUIRED BY YOU. If tax receipts can be issued, I will be in contact via email later this year.

Fourth, our organizing group is turning some of its focus to recruiting volunteers and donations in kind (i.e. extra furniture). If you know of anyone that has REGULAR daytime availability and/or someone that has extra furniture they are looking to move, please contact me directly. We don’t have a place to store any furniture but it’s probably a good time for us to start getting the word out. Once we are paired with a family and we know the age of the children, we will share details in case people have any clothes and/or other goods they would like to donate.

Fifth, going forward communications will be posted the website under the blog or FAQ section. There isn’t a ton there right now as all of our ‘spare’ time has been dedicated to fundraising and partnering with a SAH but we will try and make more time going forward.

Finally, we are ~$5000 shy of our goal. If you know anyone that would be interested in donating (in any amount), please encourage them to visit and help us make our final push!

Thank you again.
