It has been just under 2 wee…
It has been just under 2 weeks since I ran the Boston Marathon. It was a great, but very emotional trip back home to Boston- not only on Marathon Monday but in the days leading up to and following the race. One particular moment that stands out to me was an encounter I had with a survivor at our team dinner. After training for years to run Boston, he finished the last year's race with a Personal Best time - just 3 seconds before the first bomb went off. While he was luckier than most, he has struggled with hearing loss and the other "invisible" traumas that come along with an experience like that. He approached me towards the end of our dinner to share his story, to thank me for running for the One Fund and to let me know how much our team's fundraising efforts mean to him and all of the other "4/15 survivors".

I had expected the support of the city to be strong on marathon day but nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming crowds and love from the towns along the race route. It was clear that many had come out to cheer for those of us in particular who were out running to support those who can't - the Spaulding team, MR8, The One Fund, 4/15 Strong. Despite the abnormally cold winter Boston had it was an unexpectedly warm sunny day which brought both advantages and disadvantages. I ended up finishing in 4:51. While my time was a little bit slower than I anticipated (I blame Heartbreak Hill), I have the medal to prove I ran and completed the 2014 Boston Marathon. I could not have done it and raised as much money for the One Fund without you and without everyone who helped spread the word, and came out to cheer me on. So again, I want to say THANK YOU.

I have a few more weeks of fundraising left and am still about $1000 off from my minimum goal of $8000. I am planning a post-Marathon fundraising party in LA, but also wanted to let you know that if you've donated and your company does corporate matching, to please get in touch. I am happy to help facilitate the matching gift process - every little bit helps.

Thank you so much, again, for your support.

Stuff About Me:

Alexander Maud is a former radio DJ with roots in England, Florida, and Boston. He began his career as a hairstylist at G2O on Newbury Street. After more than 5 years he joined the prestigious Mizu Salon in the Mandarin Oriental and in June of 2013 Alexander relocated to Los Angeles to grow his career with the Luxelab Santa Monica team as a Senior Stylist. Outside of doing hair, Alexander plays hockey and soccer and completed his first Spartan Race in December.

Alexander was working at 776 Boylston St during last year's Boston Marathon and was profoundly affected by the events on that day. After learning that a former colleague lost both of her legs in the bombing (just blocks away from him), he was inspired to help in any way he could. As a volunteer with Homes For Our Troops, he worked with them behind the scenes to coordinate a visit between some of their veterans and his friend Celeste (video here).

Alexander is honored to be training for the 2014 Boston Marathon and fundraising on behalf of the One Fund. The money donated to his run will go directly to the victims of last year's attack.
