Stuff About Me:

On April 15, 2013, I will run the Boston Marathon to benifit Girls on the Run Boston--an organization that has stolen my heart.

I have been a full-time employee of Hill House Inc. since August 2011. As an organization, we work to foster and develop a sense of community in the heart of Boston. Our programs, seasonal athletics, holiday gatherings and summer camps encourage families to stay in the city.

My work at Hill House introduced me to Girls on the Run. Hill House applied to host a local council of this international program in the spring of 2010. Girls on the Run Boston currently shares a 501c3 tax-id number with Hill House.

In 6 seasons, Girls on the Run has grown to include an average of 60 girls/ 5 teams. This spring, I hope to assist the Boston Council in growing to include 10 Suffolk County teams.

Quick program highlights: For 12 weeks, groups of 8-20 girls meet twice weekly to work through a curriculum based in physical activity and group discussion. "Teams" of girls and 3-6 coaches (a strong coach:participant ratio) move through topics such as positive self-talk, cooperation, peer pressure, gossiping, bullying, friendship, effective portrayal of emotion and community. Runs and workouts creatively incorporate these themes, and it is the hope of GOTRI that participants all over the country will face these issues head-on, with the knowledge and experience to remember the inner strength and beauty we chat about at practice.

I have coached 2 Girls on the Run teams, 1 in Beacon Hill, and another in the North End via the Eliot K-8, a Boston Public School. It has been an absolute joy. The girls are inspirational; their pride and motivation as we work through the curriculum is contagious.

The Girls on the Run International Mission & Vision: We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

I am so proud to be a Girls on the Run coach, and to be involved with the program at an administrative level.

I have chosen to train for and run the Boston Marathon because I cannot think of a more inspirational (and meaningful at a presonal level) cause to represent. While I train, the GOTR mission will be my (much needed) motivator. I can't wait to throw on a hot pink outfit on April 15 and run 26+ miles.
