In 2014, Alexandria Imani Burgos attended Wilbur Wright College where she was a freshman working to complete her studies and become a Social Worker. She wanted to work at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center and help underprivileged children who were caught up in the criminal justice system.

Tragically, her family and our community lost an innocent 18-year-old due to a senseless act of gun violence when Alexandria was struck down by a stray bullet. Her mother, Ms. Burgos, shared that, “As a mother, I still don't believe that my daughter is gone, it is a gap that leaves a hole in my heart.” The Burgos family never thought that this kind of tragedy would happen to them. They want to turn their heartbreak into something positive to help others. To honor Alexandria’s memory, the Burgos family has established the Alexandria Imani Burgos Scholarship at Wilbur Wright College. This scholarship will benefit students whose goal is to be a social worker, those who have ambitions and dreams, and it will give them a gift that can help them academically. We want to help keep Alex's memory alive by raising funds for the scholarship.
