I am incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon with the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism. The Boston Marathon has been a goal of mine since my freshman year at BC. I watched the marathoners each year I was at Mile 21, and it is an experience like none other.
I have a younger brother who was born with cerebral palsy and is on the autism spectrum. My parents have always worked hard to provide my brother with all of the care, support and therapy he needs. However, I know many children with special needs are not as lucky as my brother. I have volunteered at several special needs camps growing up, and I will never forget the positivity and happiness the children gave to me. I want to give to a charity that is particularly close to my heart. My brother is my inspiration. I always said I wish I could be half as positive as him, he can see the good in anything and anyone. My brother is in love with sports and athleticism, however, due to his disability he is unable to participate in something like the Boston Marathon. I want to run the marathon for him and all of the people out there like him. I am so glad that I am able to give back and make a difference.
