Alexa's World Race
Two months ago my best friend, Alexa Kwiatkowski embarked on a journey of a lifetime, The World Race. The World Race is an eleven month long mission trip hosted by The Adventures in Missions Organization. This organization is a non-profit; Christian based organization that enables people of all ages and experience to spread the word of Christianity to impoverished areas where education and opportunity is limited.
Her background and inspiration...
Alexa has a background in teaching Christianity to our generation. Her experience started through Young Life, where she was a leader for two years in Wilmington, North Carolina. She taught high school students how to connect with their faith and beliefs and how fulfilling life full with Christ can be. With this experience and a full heart, Alexa found The World Race as her next journey to spread this greatness.
What she and her team has been up to...
Below are links to the blogs of her and her team ("D-Squad") as well as videos made by her teammate, Rachel Eddy. These videos highlight everything that the team has accomplished since they started in the Dominican Republic. These videos are incredibly inspiring and heart warming (and you get to see some beautiful views).

Funding for the mission...
Team members are responsible for raising their own money as they pursue the mission. There is still much funding to be raised as Alexa and her team continues on to their third month of the mission in Roatan, Honduras. There is about $900 to be raised by October 15th in order for her to continue her mission work. This money will go directly to the organization to fund the projects and services that will be completed in the remaining portion of the trip.
What encouraged me to run this race for Alexa?...
When I ran my last race, a half marathon in May, Alexa was in the midst of preparing for her departure in July. Literally, the same exact morning as my race she was having a massive yard sale to make extra money for equipment and gear needed on the trip. Seeing her work so hard and passionately about this mission inspired me to do something to help. Once I finished the race I thought to myself, this would have been a great opportunity to help Alexa raise money- runners fundraise and sponser charities all the time! I'm going to do this. Since that moment, I was determined to start training for my FIRST full marathon and run it in support of Alexa. Like Alexa did when she set off for a year around the world, I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and experience the feeling of conquering a full marathon. A few months later I started my training program and registered for the Thunder Road Marathon scheduled for Nov. 15th, 2014. I am now in the heart of my training and am beyond excited for this race. What's more motivating than knowing you're running for a cause, a cause that means so much to you. Every day I am motivated to work harder, train better, and eventually I will dominate this feat!
My goal of this fundraiser is to race the Thunder Road marathon in support of raising a portion of the funds Alexa needs to pursue her mission. I will be running on November 15th, 2014 with a goal time of under 3 hours and 50 minutes. I have set a monetary goal of $2,062, 100% of which will be donated directly to Alexa and her team. This amount represents a total of $80 per mile that I WILL complete in the Thunder Road marathon.
The training has been tough and will continue to get tougher; but as long as I remind myself what I am running for, I am able to keep on going with a determined and joyous heart!
Any and all donations are gratefully accepted!
Every penny counts and is deeply appreciated!
