Alexa's Relay For Life
Organized by: Alexa Prejna
EVENT DATE Apr 22, 2016
Just a few months ago my dad was diagnosed with 3 cancers back to back. He went from being the most active man I know, to sleeping all the time or being paralyzed in pain. Multiple Myeloma, Lukemia, and Melanoma consumed me and my families brains all day, everyday. It doesn't matter that I was away at school, it doesn't matter that homework had to get done and tests had to be taken; the world didn't slow down for me or for anyone affected by his diagnosis.
Most of all, my dad didn't get a warning that this would happen, and he couldn't have prepared for how threatening the process has been. Being poked and prodded by doctors all day doesn't really get easier over time.. It usually gets more irritating. Despite its downfalls, modern medicine gives him a real fighting chance. Frankly, it doesn't come without it financial strain, physical pain, or emotional trials but, it's the path we get to travel together as a family along side him letting him squeeze our hands. I'm not afraid because my dad is a man of faith, I'm not afraid because my dad assures me not to worry, and I'm not afraid because he's the stongest man I know. The thought of losing him has made a lot of tears hit the floor, but American Cancer Society works overtime to keep the tears to a minimum (unless they're happy ones) . ACS gives me the emotional security I need while I feel so out of control. Thus, I have joined Relay For Life; an event dedicated to fundraising for cancer research (American Cancer Society). I'm not asking for your pity, I'm asking for action, because I believe people like my dad deserve a fighting chance. Please donate to help me, my dad and my team kick cancers butt.
