BENEFITING: Discover Outdoors Foundation
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
Dear friends and family,
It's been almost 4 years since I graduated college and when I moved to the city, I immediately felt disconnected from the outdoor activities I enjoyed participating in as a child. I looked throughout the city for opportunities to fill that void but never found anything quite like Discover Outdoors. I went on my first kayaking day trip with them last summer and since then have gone on 5 different trips with them, and have plans to double that number this year.
Since 2004, Discover Outdoors has been guiding local, regional and international adventure trips for thousands of city dwellers. Their team handles it all from transportation to logistics. You just show up and experience the best your backyard has to offer. Every time you take a trip with them, a portion of your payment funds an underserved urban student to experience the outdoors.
Earlier this year, I became involved with the Discover Outdoors Foundation. Through their 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Discover Outdoors Foundation helps hundreds of deserving youth experience the outdoors for the first time. From hiking and camping to snowshoeing and fishing, they're committed to making the natural world available and accessible to everyone, regardless of their resources. Numerous studies have proven the link between both physical activity and exposure to the outdoors to improved physical and mental health, better performance in school and lower rates of behavioral problems.
On May 1, I will be riding in the TD Five Boro Bike Tour and am asking for your support in the form of a donation to the Discover Outdoors Foundation. The ride is 40 miles throughout the 5 boroughs of NYC and will be the longest single bike ride I have ever done! This contribution will directly impact an underserved child in the NYC area to get outside and discover the outdoors!
Thank you so much for your support!
