Swimming the Mighty Mac Swim on the weekend of my celebration of my 4th decade, will mean achieving a life goal, but more importantly means supporting a broader life goal for another Michigan Family – supporting others in Home Ownership.
Open water swimmers unite to support another incredible charity, Habitat for Humanity. As a pediatrician, I know personally many families, who have benefitted from Michigan’s Habitat Homes. I have the privilege of caring for the children of some of the hardworking devoted parents who provided their children a beautiful home, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. I am blessed to know the personal stories of families in our town’s Habitat Homes, personally experiencing their commitment to their families, their hard work and skills as parents, and knowing the circumstances they have handled with grace- most often out of their control, or decisions they have made to do the right thing, when that meant a personal sacrifice financially- perhaps knowing that their choice to Foster Children, raise a special needs child or come to the aid of extended family may financial drain that nest egg, that would be a down payment.
As I swim the Straits of Mackinac I achieve a dream, and in partnership with Habitat of Michigan, have a unique opportunity to support the dream of home ownership for others and thank my friends and family for their support of my dream.
