LESBIAN HERST… SAYS:
Hello Kind Donors to the Arc…
Hello Kind Donors to the Archives:

We just wanted to take a second to send a special note of thanks to all of you for the donations that you made towards the campaign for the Archives. Some of you received a version of this email earlier today because you were involved in the planning of the event, but there's no harm in being thanked twice!

For those of you who weren't able to attend the event, below are some highlights:

* Close to 200 people came through the space over the course of the 12 hours
* Once all the money is in we will have raise over $2000 to support the Archives' work
* Over 50 people shared their voices, read work, told stories, gave testimony and celebrated the work of Lorde and Rich
* 15 different groups and organizations who work with lesbians, queer folks, people of color, elders, youngsters and everything in between and beyond, attended or took active roles in supporting the event
* Numerous individuals and organizations donated their time, money, food, equipment, and energy to help make the event possible
* Deborah Edel, one of the co-founders of the Archives was present and spoke to those gathered
* Joan Nestle, the other co-founder, sent a letter to the event that was read aloud by Shawn to open the event
* At least one woman who had been present in the original Archives space at Deb and Joan's apartment returned to the current Archives space for the first time and spoke about how moved she was to see that the Archives not only continued, but has grown and reached out to whole new communities of lesbians
* Adrienne Rich's son, Pablo Conrad, not only sent a letter of thanks to us for organizing but came to the event and spoke to those present, expressing his gratitude and that this gathering was every bit as important to him as any larger institution's event commemorating his mother
* Countless pages of writing by Audre Lorde and Adrienne Rich, as well as the thoughts and writing of those present, were shared aloud
* The entire 12 hours were audio-recorded and will be archived at LHA and also posted online
* A large portion of those present at the event or during its planning were visiting the Archives for the very first time
* And on and on

Your contribution was a big part of that success and it has helped to build a stronger community around the Archives that will carry its legacy forward for years to come.

Thank you from the event organizers and the Archives!
