Over 10 years ago during my pregnancy with my beautiful oldest daughter, I began to have difficulty with my vision. I could no longer read newspapers, greeting cards, or text books. I honestly thought I just needed a new prescription. Unfortunately, that was not the case., After several trips to specialists, I was diagnosed with Stargardt's Macular Dystrophy a hereditary juvenile form of macular degeneration. There is no cure or treatment for the disease. Needless to say I was devastated Over the past 10 years I have been blessed to be minimally affected by my diagnosis as the progression was initially slow. Within the past few years however my disease has progressed to the point of near legal blindness...... I was made aware that in the state of LA with the purchase of bioptic lenses as well as very specialized training , a person with visual impairment can still be a licensed driver. I was Aldo elated to find that LA Rehab services, a state agency that helps folks with disabilities usually can cover most of the cost. I went through the assessment process only to be later told that even though I qualify, there are no funds currently available to pay for lenses or training due to LA state budget cuts. I am determined to remain independent and am striving to meet the goal of $5000 which will enable me to purchase bioptic lenses and complete training,
