BENEFITING: HABITAT FOR HUMANITY-REBUILD MICHIGAN
EVENT: Mighty Mac Swim 2016
EVENT DATE: Sep 05, 2016
Hi Everyone! My name is Alexis Underwood and I'm a professional business woman and professional long distance open water swimmer.
I've always loved the water! As a toddler, I would make my mom use a stopwatch to time how long I could float in the bathtub. Years of dedicated pool training paid off as I proudly represented the University of Pennsylvania in NCAA division 1 swimming. After a few years off, I got my first taste of open water through a half ironman relay team with work colleagues. I was immediately hooked! Over the last 4 years I have focused exclusively for open water races, and have enjoyed increasing success in national and international competitions.
I also have a strong passion for business. I currently run one of the largest accounts at Georgia Pacific and previously worked in roles involving strategy, M&A, pricing, analytics and innovation. I've found that the more intense my work gets, the harder I need to train to keep some balance in my life!
One of my favorite parts about becoming a professional open water swimmer is getting more engaged with various communities. One of the causes that I’m most passionate about is homelessness. I have devoted energy to it through soup kitchens, volunteer consulting, and home building. I love that I'm going to battle homelessness with Habitat for Humanity by doing the thing I love the most.
