EVENT DATE: Sep 06, 2014
The Alex Johnson Memorial Benefit for Literacy is a fundraiser to support the Mississippi County Literacy Council In Northeast Arkansas. Alex was a student and tutor at Arkansas Northeastern College in Blytheville, AR where he also volunteered for the local Literacy Council. He was killed in a car wreck on his way home from his college choir class one evening in October of 2009. Each year we honor his memory by collecting donations and having a silent art auction and concert. The Miss. Co. Literacy Council is an all volunteer organization that is not receiving state or federal funding and relies strictly on donations and fundraisers. The Literacy Council teaches adults 18 years and up how to read or improve their reading skills. English as a second language is also taught. This fundraiser will be used to pay for materials the tutors need to teach their students as well as materials needed for the students themselves. Please help us by becoming an advocate for adult literacy in Northeast Arkansas!! Give today!! Thank You!
