Hi, I have been wanting to run the marathon since the moment I saw my girlfriend Kelly and her brother Ryan cross the line in the 2014 NYC Marathon. I have always been a sportsman, a rugby player for many years before my desk job took over, but had never seen or even experienced the buzz of a marathon, from that day I was hooked. That day Kelly and I were pretty new but I had supported her through her training and wanted to be there for race day. I got a megabus up from DC extremely early, leaving my parents who were over from the UK , to make sure I could be at mile 25 which was where we were planning to meet the family. I stood with Annie(Mom) & Mollie(sister) and a group of friends cheering them on with home made signs and screaming at the top of our lungs, being with Annie when she saw both of them was a moment I will forever cherish, she was going through her battle with Pancreatic cancer and I know it made her so proud to see them trying to make a difference and achieving such an amazing accomplishment. The next 18 months I shared amazing highs with Kelly , Annie and the family as we went to weddings , on vacations and to family football games spending amazing times together as Kelly and I moved in together and our relationship went from strength to strength. We also were with her during the battle and spent weekends at home and tried to be there as much as Kelly, Ryan & Mollie could to comfort their mom in those desperate times.Unfortunately Annie lost her battle in October of 2015. I have seen the devastation this disease and other cancers can cause first hand so if I can raise money to help fight this battle and provide much needed dollars for treatment and research/ support it would be a huge honor. I suppose in summary running marathons is something that has been ever present during my relationship with my beautiful girlfriend and her family and I would like to run my first one in Annies memory and to continue the family legacy that Annie herself started! Annie had running in her DNA and passed this onto her kids, honestly I wasnt much of a runner before I met Kelly and thank them all for bringing this into my life, I will be thinking of Annie throughout my training and as I run the race, keeping her mantra in my head throughout ; 'See you at the finish line'
As a Rugby player I have been fortunate enough to be involved in some great teams with a strong team spirit and I was struck by the amazing team culture of Project Purple; which is what I am going to need if I am going to smash what will certainly be the biggest challenge of my life!
I am hugely excited for this challenge and have begun training hard and now comes the fund raising efforts. If you could kindly donate to my page however large or small EVERY donation will help me achieve my goal and therefore help people through their battles and hopefully go some way to finding the cure for this disease.
Thanks for reading and See you at the finish line
