BENEFITING: Good Sports, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Oct 11, 2015
I have a pretty bad track record - pun intended - when it comes to running. I didn't make the cut times for the team in high school (but snuck on through high-jumping), got a stress fracture in college from running (...1 mile), and played a sport for 12 years that didn't even require shoes, not to mention runnning. While I've always lacked the motivation and cardiovascular ability for the sport, many kids lack something more basic and necessary: running shoes.
That's where Good Sports comes in. Since 2003, Good Sports has donated over $12 million worth of brand new sports and fitness equipment, footwear, and uniforms to underprivileged children across the country. This includes donations to schools, community programs, and more. I recently became involved with Good Sports through their Young Professionals Board and am excited to be able to contribute to the their mission of laying the foundation for children to lead healthy, active lifestyles.
Sports have always played an important role in my life and continue to help me challenge myself today. I am excited to be able to accomplish two goals at once by running the BAA Half Marathon: face a sport that has always terrified me and raise support and awareness for Good Sports, so that they can continue to ensure that children have access to the physical, social, and personal benefits that come with playing sports.
Thank you for your support and check back for photo updates of my journey to 13.1!
