Below is the statement from the OCAO about their mission and why they do the walk. So many women are affected by this silent disease. It is often in the later stages when it is found. Please donate to bring more research and more awareness so we can save suffering and save lives. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and from my family as well.
Our mission represents "hope”. A hope that more women and men would become aware of ovarian cancer, as well as its symptoms. Hope that awareness would lead to earlier detection of the disease, increasing survival rates. And finally, the ability to provide hope to women and families who have been touched by ovarian cancer in the form of activities and events designed to improve their quality of life and show they are not on this journey alone.
"Strides for Hope” is held annually in September during ovarian cancer awareness month. It is a key initiative for raising awareness and educating the public about ovarian cancer. Awareness and education occurs during the event, but the funds raised also allow the OCAO to continue to meet our mission throughout the year. This event also allows us to celebrate the amazing women battling this disease. Each registered survivor wears a teal race shirt and they are presented with a rose as they cross the finish line. The opening ceremony also provides an opportunity to honor and remember those women who fought a brave battle but have unfortunately passed as a result of ovarian cancer.
The OCAO invites both the public and businesses to become involved with "Strides for Hope” through participation, volunteerism and sponsorship. If you are interested in joining our team, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 614-546-9498 for additional information.
