Hi, I’m Alisa and I’m having a pretty hard time concealing my excitement. I’m graduating in May 2015 from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Family Community Services, a minor in Sociology and a concentration in Children & Youth. It’s been hard, but this part of the journey ends with a 3.38 GPA and an opportunity to complete my credits towards graduation by participating in MSU’s Study Away Program...in Hawaii.
This is an amazing opportunity that I have been hoping on participating since my freshman year at MSU. I will be able to work with the Hawaiian population directly and, although I have not been placed into an exact internship, I will hopefully be working at the Health Center in the Youth Outreach program. This program supports homeless youth around the area by offering multiple services to help support those in this tough situation.
Thing is, great opportunities come with a price. That’s why I’m asking for your help in raising the $9,500 tuition and program fee required to complete it.
I’m doing this because youth and children, in local communities, has become my passion. Through this internship I will be able to gain some great experience for my future career by having the ability to be more equipped with working with at-risk youth. I will also be able to learn and enhance methods on one-on-one and group interventions.
Having the opportunity to embrace a cultural experience that is within the United States but still carries multiple aspects of what I may have experienced in study abroad is very appealing to me. This is a multicultural experience that begins with a weeklong immersion experience into Native Hawaiian culture.
So now for the breakdown of the monies. The internship program cost is $4,200 and the program fee covers housing and two daily meals at the University of Honolulu, field trips, and the group inter-island flight between Honolulu and Hilo. Tuition for the semester is $4,000 and the cost of the flight is approximately $1,300. The program fee does NOT include tuition, some meals, travel to and from Hawaii, transportation within location, or personal spending money.
Program Fee: $4,200
Without understatement, your support will not only help me achieve an amazing internship goal, it’s going to change my life, in a summer. A Michigan State University Master's of Social Work is the goal that follows. When I think of starting it with this Hawaii experience under my belt, I can only think of one word. Mahalo. It’s actually two words in English.
Thank you. With a warm heart.
