BENEFITING: BREAST CANCER COALITION OF ROCHESTER INC
EVENT DATE: May 10, 2015
I am a breast cancer survivor, class of 2006. I've been involved with the Breast Cancer Coaltion as a volunteer for more than 10 years and have been on staff as Research Administrator since January 2013. I'll be running the Pink Ribbon 5 K on Mother's Day and, for the first time, am trying my hand at a fundraising page. All funds raised here on my behalf will be allocated to the Coaliton's Research Initiative.
The Research Initiative supports and furthers breast cancer research by funding innovative proposals with the potential to yield significant medical breakthroughs. Four focus areas have been prioritized: cause, prevention, prevention of metastasis, and cure. Coalition grant money is intended for use by recipients as “seed money” to initiate research and generate the preliminary data required to apply for larger grants from major institutions such as the Department of Defense and the National Institute of Health. The Coalition’s research grant program began in 2003 with a single grant of $25,000. To date, twelve research grants totaling more than $525,000 have been awarded.
