SummerAde makes attending summer day camp possible for children with special needs who would otherwise be unable to attend due to their challenges, by matching them with trained teen mentors at no cost to the family.
This important one-of-a-kind program is in jeopardy of discontinuing without your support.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 by November 15, 2016 to help ensure funding to match mentors to campers next Spring.

A personal message from one of our campers with special needs.
Why attending regular summercamp is so important
Being fully included in a regular summer day camp affords children with special needs an invaluable life experience where they play and learn alongside their peers, learn new skills and create cherished childhood memories while being truly integrated into their communities. It also benefits all campers by teaching them that some people act or think in different ways and that is okay, ultimately dispelling common stereotypes, thereby building more cohesive and accepting communities.
SummerAde History & Future Plans
In our nine years of service, we have served 228 campers, with the assistance of 273 teen mentors throughout 274 weeks of camp. SummerAde hopes to grow its program by recruiting 10% more mentors and more campers each subsequent year. We predict a modest growth each year as we intend to prioritize the maintenance of a quality program. Our operating model is no longer sustainable as a volunteer run organization and in order to sustain and grow our services, we need to fundraise.
SummerAde fills a void in the special needs community throughout the country and has the potential to grow and become a national program, providing access to thousands of children. You could help in opening up opportunities for children throughout the country.
Please support this important program: DONATE NOW and spread the word.
SummerAde benefits campers: SummerAde offers an opportunity for those who might otherwise be unable to attend summer camp to form lasting memories with their siblings and neighborhood peers, while being truly integrated into their community. Attending a ‘normal’ summer camp gave your child a chance to teach other children that some people act or think in different ways and that is okay, ultimately dispelling common stereotypes.
SummerAde benefits mentors: In a culture that is so wrapped around ‘wants’ and ‘achievements,’ it is easy for our teenagers to grow up without a sense of gratitude for what they have and empathy for the needs of the less fortunate around them. Volunteering with SummerAde gives them a chance to dispel stereotypes about why people act or think in different ways while also learning about the unique challenges that children with disabilities may face.
Please help us to continue this life-enhancing program. DONATE NOW and spread the word.
