BENEFITING: YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh
ORGANIZER: YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh
Last year we gave out $62,000 in scholarships for various programs, but only received $60,000 in donations. About half of that money went towards membership for individuals and families that would not be able to afford it otherwise and start the steps to living a healthy life. It also went towards seniors that would not have been able to afford a membership, which allowed them them to get the social interaction in classes that they would not get otherwise.
About $20,000 of the money we gave out last year went towards after school childcare and camp. We provided a safe and nurturing place for kids to thrive and gave parents the peace of mind that their kids were well taken care of that they would not have been able to afford otherwise. We also were able to feed the kids healthy meals that they didn't always get at home.;
The remainder of the scholarship money we gave away went towards programs, such as swim lessons and into housing, where we provide rooms to men with low income.
Last year we at 26 kids go though a week of free swim lessons, that for many of them it was their first time in the pool and in a community that drowning is a high risk. I hope that this year we will be able to send about 50 kids through the program. Fundraising money will be used for this program as well.
If you are able to help give I would greatly appreciate it. I am hoping to raise around $1000 this year and need your help. No amount of money is too small. I hope you are all doing well and thank you for your support!
