From the Daraja website:
"Daraja Academy is a boarding secondary school for Kenyan girls with top academic scores and exceptional leadership skills but no means to continue their education. The academy provides shelter, food, healthcare and counseling services which allows students to focus on their academic and personal potential, without being hindered by the everyday barriers of poverty."
This year, for the 100th anniversary of the annual Bay to Breakers, I will be a cheerleader for the members here in California as they run in support of these brilliant girls. As I cheer for the runners here, I am also supporting my partner at Daraja: 17 year old Elizabeth. She is seen in the attached photo on the left, smiling with her friends. This bright, bubbly girl lives in Kinangpop, Kenya with her family. She is aware of the fact that the drop rate from elementary school to high school in Kenya is 80%. Being the intelligent girl she is, Elizabeth works hard in school to change this statistic.
Please consider donating towards this wonderful program to help me meet my goal of $500. By helping me reach this goal, you will be giving an eductation to a brilliant girl who wouldn't have a chance otherwise. Thank you!
