BENEFITING: ALLIED SERVICES FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: ALLIED SERVICES FOUNDATION
I'm proud to be running the TCS NYC Marathon to help children and adults with disabilities in NE and Central Pennsylvania served by Allied Services. Any size donation will help. Donate $30 in my honor and you'll be eligible to receive a cool moisture-wicking WNEP's Ryan's Run exercise shirt.
Hello! My name is Jamie LaPointe. I moved to Scranton, PA in 2014 from Huntingtown, MD upon completion of my bachelor’s degree in Biology from Marywood University. I began working for Bayada Pediatrics shortly after graduation, caring for multiple children with special needs. After two years of employment through Bayada Pediatrics, I decided that Biology was not my calling. It was at that time that I made the decision to return to school to obtain my second bachelor’s degree in Nursing. I began to get more involved with patients in the hospital setting, working at Geisinger Community Medical Center as an aide on a Medical/Surgical floor. Within a year and a half of employment on the Medical/Surgical floor, I transferred to the Intensive Care Unit as an aide to gain more experience prior to graduation.
I am currently a nurse. I am an avid runner, and I regularly participate in classes at Crossfit Vertex. I began my running journey in 2014, starting with a 5k race. After the 5k race, I decided to begin training for the Scranton 1/2 Marathon. Upon completion of the Scranton 1/2 Marathon I decided to embark in the journey of running a full marathon, particularly the Steamtown Marathon. I completed my first full marathon in October 2015, and ever since then I have ran five 1/2 marathons and four full marathons to date. I guess you could say I enjoy running a little bit! A lot of my drive to continue to run stems from my little sister, Hannah. She was born with cerebral palsy, and she inspires me every day to better myself and to never give up. She is living proof that every situation is what you make of it, and that remaining optimistic makes life a little more positive as a whole entity.
On November 5, 2017 I will be running the TCS New York City Marathon with the Allied Services Team. I am honored to be a part of such a wonderful group benefiting a fantastic cause. I am beyond excited to run my fifth full marathon with a group of wonderful, driven runners. ?
