BENEFITING: ALLIED SERVICES FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: ALLIED SERVICES FOUNDATION
I'm proud to be running the TCS NYC Marathon to help children and adults with disabilities in NE and Central Pennsylvania served by Allied Services. Any size donation will help. Donate $30 in my honor and you'll be eligible to receive a cool moisture-wicking WNEP's Ryan's Run exercise shirt.
My name is Lauren Summa, and I am proud to be running the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon as a part of WNEP’s Ryan’s Run 8 team! Allied Services is an organization that is close to my heart for two very special reasons.
My son, Jack, was born on May 7, 2011, after a completely healthy and normal pregnancy. Shortly after birth, however, the nurses noticed that something was wrong when he wasn’t able to drink from his bottle. He was admitted to the NICU within hours, and was transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome, which is characterized by difficulty with feeding, short stature, speech and language problems, and varying degrees of intellectual disability.
Jack has been receiving speech, physical, and occupational therapy services at Allied since the age of three. The therapists and staff at Allied are some of the most compassionate and welcoming people I have ever gotten to know. They care for Jack—and the countless other children they serve—just as they would treat their own. So, when my father was diagnosed with Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) in 2013, I was relieved to hear that he would also receive physical therapy through Allied Services.
For both my son and my father, the staff at Allied Services has helped to make two very frightening and uncertain situations much more manageable. For that, I am eternally grateful. I am humbled and honored to be able to give back to the people who have given so much to my family!
