I'm proud to be running the TCS NYC Marathon to help children and adults with disabilities in NE and Central Pennsylvania served by Allied Services. Any size donation will help. Donate $30 in my honor and you'll be eligible to receive a cool moisture-wicking WNEP's Ryan's Run exercise shirt.
My name is Marissa Cottell and I’m honored to be running in the TCS NYC Marathon to benefit children and adults with disabilities and the life-changing work of Allied Services. I live in Clarks Summit with my husband, Jared, and my two sons, Cooper (7) and Graham (4). I am a 3rd grade teacher at Clarks Summit Elementary School, where I have worked for the past 11 years. Growing up I never considered myself a runner, but while living in Boston for a short period of time, I had the opportunity to watch the Boston Marathon. I was immediately inspired by the energy of the runners and their encouraging group of supporters. Looking back, this is where I caught the “running bug” and set a personal goal of completing a marathon one day. It wasn’t long after that when I returned home to Scranton, bought The Non-Runner’s Marathon Trainer, and started working on running for minutes at a time to miles at a time. I have completed several 5ks, half-marathons, and marathons over the course of 12 years and continue to feel the same inspiration and energy through my participation in this sport. The benefits of running are endless, and over the years it has given me the opportunity to connect with an amazing group of runners in our area.
I am proud to run as a representative for Allied Services and Gertrude Hawk Chocolates. I have friends, family members, and former students who have benefited from the state of the art programs and services at Allied. I am so excited to be part of WNEP’s Ryan’s Run campaign and do my part in spreading awareness and helping to improve the lives of individuals in our community.
