THE STORY:

I'm proud to be running the TCS NYC Marathon to help children and adults with disabilities in NE and Central Pennsylvania served by Allied Services. Any size donation will help. Donate $30 in my honor and you'll be eligible to receive a cool moisture-wicking WNEP's Ryan's Run exercise shirt.

Emmy nominated television personality Ryan Leckey is the chairman of the WNEP's Ryan’s Run campaign for Allied Services. With Ryan’s knack for producing engaging live and untraditional television, Allied knew he was the perfect pick to help spearhead this campaign which first started in 2010.

To date, “Ryan’s Run” has raised $2.1 million dollars to help kids and adults with disabilities throughout Northeastern & Central Pennsylvania. The campaign has also received multiple honors. “Ryan’s Run” was named by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters as an “Outstanding Television Public Service Campaign.” The NYC Marathon organizers also recognized the campaign as a Silver Charity because of the significant amount of money it raises each year in such a short amount of time. The Silver Charity status puts “Ryan’s Run” on the same world stage as the UNICEF and the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundations. Ryan credits the success of the campaign to the generous and caring people in Northeastern & Central Pennsylvania along with support from WNEP-TV, especially station management, and Ryan’s morning photographer/the guy he calls “the brother he never had,” Corey Burns. The pair work daily together on Newswatch 16 This Morning.  Ryan, who Pennsylvania viewers often call “The Leckenator,” is the producer/host of “Leckey Live,” an almost daily segment on Newswatch 16 This Morning. It airs on WNEP-TV, an ABC affiliate based near Scranton, Pennsylvania. WNEP-TV is America’s highest rated ABC affiliate and is a television station dedicated to giving back to the viewers it serves. “Leckey Live” is a segment on Newswatch 16 that covers everything from community events to breaking news as well as special projects including rare behind the scenes looks at television show’s like ABC’s The View, The Chew, and LIVE With Kelly & Michael.  Ryan’s other in-depth reports have included one-on-one interviews with TV icons including:  Regis Philbin, Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer and former President Bill Clinton.

Ryan describes himself as a social media addict who got his first break in television at the age of 18 on WJAC-TV (NBC) in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. While working in his hometown, Ryan reported, anchored, and even did fill-in-weather for WJAC’s morning show. He worked while completing his undergraduate degree in Communication Arts at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Just months after graduation and four years in television, Ryan landed his next TV job at WNEP. Soon after moving to the Scranton area, Ryan earned his Master’s degree in Media Management at Marywood University. It’s also at Marywood where Ryan worked as an adjunct faculty member where he taught courses for five years in Broadcast News Writing and Media Performance.

Ryan’s other accomplishments while working in Northeastern & Central Pennsylvania include being named an “Outstanding Young Pennsylvanian” (Nov. 2011) by the commonwealth’s Jaycees organization for his dedication to so many charitable causes.  Also, an Emmy Nomination for his Spot News coverage during record flooding in the spring of 2011 and another honor for his contribution to an Emmy Nominated Newscast in 2007. Ryan provided multiple live reports from a shutdown highway during the infamous Valentine’s Day Snowstorm. Electric City Magazine has named Ryan “Best Local TV Personality” over the past three years.

When Ryan’s not on the air or volunteering as a host at various community events, ‘The Leckenator’ can be found working out at CrossFit Scranton, a place he considers his second home. Ryan credits CrossFit Scranton, Mission Yoga, and his good friend, Allied therapist Cathy Guzzi, for helping him stay as healthy as possible while following his passion for fitness. One fun fact:  Ryan has written/recorded several original songs and released his first album “Just Getting Started” on January 13, 2012. You can hear them at http://ryanleckey.com/music/
