BENEFITING: SERVE A LITTLE
EVENT DATE: Aug 27, 2015
This year I turn 40. Yep, 40. Instead of celebrating my birthday with a lavish party where I'd be showered with expensive gifts (a girl can dream right?), I'm giving it up instead and all I want is an elementary school in Haiti.
I was recently honored to be invited on the board of a non-profit called Serve A Little (SAL). One of the missions of SAL is to build schools in rural areas of Haiti. In the area in which we work, the children have to cross a major river to attend the existing school and every year many children drown while attempting to cross. So our mission is to build public schools in these remote locations of Haiti by working with the locals to build hurricane-resistant schools that are able to teach 400 kids a day along with a meal a day. So far we are near completion of one school and are working to fund the building of a second school (see www.80forhaiti.com). Help me to fulfill my birthday wish by donating to the funding of this school.
It costs $80,000 to build a school, so my goal is to raise $2,000, or 1/40th of the total cost (clever, I know).
Check out the video and photos I've attached. They include a photo of the builders standing on the foundation of the first school, a map of the school and river, a rendering of a finished school, and photos and a video of some of the children who will attend. Try to say no to the adorable faces of the children...go ahead just try.
