ORGANIZER: Allyson Whitney Foundation
EVENT: 2013 Allyson Whitney 5k
EVENT DATE: May 11, 2013
This May we (Suzy, Vicky and Melany) will be running in the second annual Allyson Whitney Foundation 5K.
This foundation helps aid young adults fighting rare cancers financially.
Leaving them without worrying about bills, treatments, etc so they can concentrate on kicking cancers ASS!
Unfortunately we knew someone who lost her battle to a rare Carcinoma .
Allyson Whitney Strong lost her battle at the age of 25. Through the time we've known Ally, we learned to love her for her endearing smile and strength to fight cancer and selflessness to help others through their journey of fighting cancer as well.
As she battled Small Cell Cervical Cancer, she expressed a wish. A wish to help aid other young adults fighting rare cancers and wished to do so when she became well.
Although Ally did not win her batte with SCCC, her family continues to allow her legacy to live on and fulfill her wish by starting The Allyson Whitney Foundation to assist others in need in her honor.
Last year combined, The Queen's Girls raised about 10k. The foundation has now given grants to 17 young courageous young adults fighting in the last year. Last year, the race raised over 53,000 dollars. All proceeds have been donated to people fighting rare cancers and aids in the study of prevention against rare cancers.
The grants have helped these young adults fighting avoid any financial burdens so they can concentrate on kicking cancers ASS!.
This year we want to exceed our goal as a team and make our friend's wish continue!
Help us continue this support and sponsor us to run in honoring Allyson Whitney Strong and making her wish come true.
Last year, we did not place first in the race, yet our goals remain the same; to raise a few dollars and bring awareness to this foundation that is so dear to our hearts.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you decide to donate or not, we've at least have hoped to have shared Ally's story and her family's strength to allow her legacy to live on.
Vicky will also be running in her friend's honor, Barry Silverstien, who suffered and passed away from Myleo Dysplastic Syndrome - bone marrow this January. .
With love, Team Members: Melany, Assunta and Vicky
