BENEFITING: UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO
I'm running the 50 MILE Des Plaines River Trail ULTRA MARATHON to raise $3000 for an afterschool pre-k literacy program at the University of Chicago, called ALMas (Ayudandoles a Lograr Mas = "Helping Them Achieve More").
For me, this is personal. My parents immigrated here with nothing, but I turned out all right. But most hispanic immigrant children don't. But every kid should have the same opportunity I had, not to go to the same school I have, but to a better one.
ALMas in a Nutshell:
ALMas is a student organization at the University of Chicago dedicated to reducing the educational and achievement gap between young Hispanics and the average American student. It will provide an after school pre-school literacy program that focuses on reading comprehension and that is founded upon the most recent research on early childhood education especially as it pertains to young Hispanics.
Because we believe that every child deserves the opportunity at the American Dream!
