Kinera Foundation Inc wrote -Just about 5 years ago my son was diagnosed with Autism. It was unexpected, it was life changing, it has been awe-inspiring. After his diagnosis, we began to search for information, local resources, therapies and services to help our son. We also wanted to connect with other families raising children with special needs. We wanted our other 2 sons to connect with other siblings. We wanted to find a community of families who might help us, who might become our friends. When our search came up short, we decided that complaining about the lack of resources wouldn't help us. Instead we decided to get to work. We reached out to our local community, and with the help of friends like you, we founded Kinera Foundation. We have one main objective "to enhance the quality of life for children with special needs and their families". We need your help, so that other parents, siblings and children with special needs don't feel the sense of loneliness we felt. We need you to help us create a place where an entire family could come together for support, information, resources, therapies, and even specialty appointments. We want our community to come together to support and include children with special needs and their families. It has been close to 5 years, and we are beginning to realize our dream. In June of 2016, we opened the doors to the Kinera Foundation Eastern Shore Regional Hub. We are the first Pediatric Specialty Hub that provides collaborative, coordinated, patient/ family centered care in the State of Maryland. In the last six months we have provided over 300 hours of therapy and specialty services. We have partnered with 10 different agencies, organizations, therapists, children's hospitals, health departments, and school systems to bring pediatric specialty care to Maryland's Eastern Shore. We are bringing families from across the State together with our Sensory Friendly Events, Informational Symposiums, Kinera Connect Parent Support Groups, and even in the Family Lounge of the Hub. Every dollar counts, and every dollar ensures that another family has access to support, information, resources, therapies and specialty services. Every child deserves the opportunity to realize their potential. Together we can.
